Pray for Our Leaders

“I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.” (1 Timothy 2:1-6)

This is a great passage but one that has often been misunderstood. This verse is a command to pray for our leaders. Why should we pray for them?

The answer is so very important. Let’s look at the passage. The verse says to pray and intercede for all men. The verse also says and this is noteworthy, to give thanks for them as well.

This of course means all kinds of men as we see that in the context because it highlights a certain group of people. He mentions all men then says for kings and all who are in authority. So we are to pray and intercede for all kinds of men including kings and those in authority.

So we are to pray, intercede, and yes, give thanks for our leaders including President Biden. That’s right, we are commanded to give thanks for President Biden because it’s ultimately God who appointed him as our leader. So we are commanded to pray for all kinds of men and the emphasis is placed on national leaders such as kings (or in our case Presidents) and all in authority.

The verse goes on to say that praying for our leaders is good and acceptable in the eyes of God. Why is it good and acceptable? The answer is because He will have all men, that is all kinds of men to be saved including secular authorities. I’m not making a statement that God doesn’t want all people to be saved I’m simply pointing out the context of the passage. The “all men” in this passage clearly means all kinds of men by the context.

So back to why we pray for them. The answer is because God would have even unsaved secular leaders to be saved. Jesus Christ is the only mediator between God and men so we go to Him to ask for their salvation.

There are too many churches and church leaders who don’t want to pray for the other political party. They want to criticize and malign. I fear deep down many don’t really want them to get saved.

We can’t let ourselves fall into this trap. If we are to be interested in the things God is interested in then we need to pray for our leaders to be saved. Whether a leader is Republican or Democrat our desire should be for them to know Christ.

The command is clear to pray for our leaders. God wants them to be saved as well and since there is no mediator but Christ we must go to Him with intercession on their behalf. So here is the question: have you prayed for the President’s salvation today?

Do you pray daily for God to give him wisdom and discernment? Before you malign the President, pray for him, I’ll bet when you do you’ll find it hard to malign him because your heart will grow soft and tender towards him.

It’s not wrong to disagree with our President but it’s wrong not to pray for him.

Murder is not Subjective

Abortion is murder. There I said it. Now that the truth is out I want to address a blatant hypocrisy of the pro-abortion crowd. In America if you kill (whether intentionally or not) the unborn baby of a woman it is counted as murder. If you kill a woman with child then you are charged with double murder or if you just kill the unborn child you are charged with murder. This is a Biblical point of view.

“If men strive, and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart from her, and yet no mischief follow: he shall be surely punished, according as the woman’s husband will lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges determine. And if any mischief follow, then thou shalt give life for life.” (Exodus 21:22-23)

The utter hypocrisy is that our society counts the unborn child as a life unless the mother doesn’t want it, then we say it isn’t. This is insanity. Either it is a life or it isn’t but our desire for it can’t decide that. Can you imagine if we applied that logic to anything else. Divorce laws go out the window because she is only my wife if I want her to be. Killed your 12 year old? Well if you didn’t want him he wasn’t really alive.

The truth is that we know it’s a life and we suppress that because we love our sin. This is what the Bible says.

“For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness.” (Romans 1:18)

This verse is saying that we suppress the truth because we love our unrighteousness. The truth is that we know a baby in the womb is still a baby but when it suits our wicked desires we deny it yet when we feel it’s something we want we claim it’s a life. Men and women are in prison for murdering unborn children and yet abortionists do the same thing every day.

Men and women are in prison for hiring someone to kill a person and yet women pay abortionists every day to violently rip a baby apart. We think we are soothing our conscience but one day the conscience will stand to condemn us on the day we stand before God in judgment. We must repent as a society of this double-minded standard and protect all life.
